Tex went to our vet the other day to get checked out. His hips are perfect, no arthritis and bloodwork came back to tell us what we already knew, healthy as could be! It took Tex about a month to settle in altogether at our house but he is definitely part of the family now. Tex is the epitome of a GSD.

SPECTACULAR.....if forced to sum up this wonderful Rin Tin Tin lookalike in one word, it would have to be spectacular. Luckily, I get to use more words so read on!

Don't let his age fool you - he can keep up with you and probably put most younger dogs (and people) to shame. In fact, he is probably closer to 8 than 9. Truly, adopting an older dog gives you the best of all worlds, past the puppy stuff, mature enough to know how to act and have patience but still silly enough to play with the best of them. In fact, Tex plays with our neighbor's one year old Airdale and gives him a run for the money!

Tex came to our home as a dog that wanted to be friends with us but just wasnt sure if it was safe as he'd been thru so much. Within about a week, he started to settle in and get comfortable. Soon after, that tail was wagging nonstop, he was following us around the house to get pet (although not at all clingy), was licking our 2 year old daughter and was playing like a happy boy with our 5 year old dog (whom he loves and can easily keep up with)....he was also getting told to get OFF THE COUCH! Well, I mean, it's pretty comfortable! He is such a sweet, affectionate, silly boy.

Tex is gorgeous. His movements are so fluid and graceful - I love to watch him walk or run. He is such an incredibly intelligent dog and yet has that goofy side. He loves to give kisses but not so much as you get wet all the time! He'll let you rub his belly forever, if you'll do it.

Totally housebroken. Knows basic commands. Great on leash (if not so great off leash). Absolutely gorgeous. Entrusted with free roam of the house at all times. He's great with our 2 year old (for those of you with two year old kids, you know they can be challenging!). Adores all dogs, big and small. While we don't have a cat, I'd be shocked if he wasnt good with them.

I know, I'm gushing but I cant help it. I adore this dog. Quite honestly, we would be keeping him except we just feel that our 2 year old is just too much for him - her favorite pastime is laying on him when he's relaxing and it's just more than he needs to deal with. But take a look at his pix - he is good with kids and could easily go to a home with kids over 5 years old. Oh and he'd love another dog, although not mandatory. He just simply loves other dogs but meeting them at the park would be great for everyone.

Tex's ideal home - well, most important is loving and absolutely committed to him for the rest of his life - no more bouncing around!!! He could live in a house or apartment. While he'd love a fenced yard (he really isn't great off leash), he'd do great with very long walks and would absolutely love a dog park! Please keep in mind, he does have energy to burn off and will need to play!

Tex's history as we know it:

Tex wound up in a shelter at about four years old, and we know nothing about him before that. They adopted him out and he was later returned for no stated reason. They adopted him out again. He was found wandering and wound up back in the shelter. That person came to get him out but then returned him later (again no reason). A wonderful small rescue got him out and placed him. He wound up in the shelter again as a stray, at which point that rescue got him back. They then placed him with a wonderful man for 3 years with whom Tex was happy. Sadly, that gentleman went to a nursing home in March of 2012 and Tex found himself homeless yet again. The rescue took him back but after several months asked GSRA to help as GSRA is successful in placing "Senior" dogs. If you're confused in reading all that, imagine how he must have felt.

Tex now lives with us as a foster dog and we are absolutely committed to finding him a special home - and we are serious about that being a home that will love him and keep him forever. He deserves that and we mean to see that he gets it!
