I want everyone to meet one of the sweetest dogs ever: Houston !

Houston was found wandering the streets in Virginia. He was so good with people and other dogs that the shelter staff kept him around for more than a month, sure that his people would come looking for him. Unfortunately they didn't, but now he's on the GSRA team and will make one lucky family very happy.

The shelter guessed him to be around 8 yrs old, but the vet thinks he is closer to 6 or 7, based on his teeth. Hip X-rays showed mild arthritis (normaly for his estimated age), but no signs of hip dysplasia. He has a slight hitch in his left hip when he first starts moving, but i t has certainly become less noticeable over the last month as we've been getting him out and about on frequent pack walks. He is neutered and heart worm negative. He had a cracked molar (slab fracture) removed on 7/26 and he is recovering nicely.

Houston (we call him Huey) is a dream dog in the house. He loves his crate, and is very good about letting us know when he needs to go out. He has shown a lot of interest in what is on the kitchen counter, so we suspect he would counter surf if given the opportunity. He is not food aggressive, and is very gentle when taking treats.

It is very obvious that he was well cared for at one time.
He walks well on leash, and is completely non-aggressive with his 2 female foster sisters and our cat. He has let us give him a bath, clean his ears, and clip his nails with no fussing at all. He knows basic commands (sit, down, stay, shake), but doesn't always obey. We're still working on that. : )
His interest in toys has grown since he's been in foster care.  He likes to chase them (ball/frisbee), and occasionally will bring it back somewhere close to you.  For some reason he often stops about 4 feet short and drops it.

Huey didn't have any issues with the fireworks on July 4th, but did show a little anxiety during a thunderstorm the next day (just some whining and pacing in his crate, nothing destructive).  This has improved as he has become more comfortable with his situation.

He is not a high energy dog, but he does need his exercise. Houston is not the kind of dog who will go running for miles with you, but he really enjoys a good walk.

He would do well as an only dog, or with canine siblings.

Give this wonderful dog a chance, and he's going to steal your heart!
