Hey there!! My name is Dutchie, and it is my pleasure to introduce myself! I am a very pretty and calm girl. I am looking for my forever home with a calm family. I will let my foster mom tell you the details of my earlier life, but let's just say it was not the best. I am so happy to be in my foster home. I am a bit shy when meeting new people, and it takes me a few days to warm up and feel safe. Once I know I can trust you, I will be you best friend. I am very pretty (so says mom) and very gentle in nature. I look forward to meeting you!!
From foster mom:
Do you ever feel that you were dealt a low hand in life?? Stuck in a cycle of dispair, with no apparent way of getting out of it since it was due to circumstances beyond your control?? Well, let me tell you Dutchie's story. Dutchie is a beautiful black and red AKC shepherd, who is only 7.5 years old. Unfortunately, she has been used as a breeder dog for her whole life...and not much of a life at that. Living in squalid conditions, and bred repeatedly. (Her previous "owner" said she has had at least 10 litters.) Finally, when she was unable to produce any more pups, he decided he could not afford to feed her. He put her on Craigslist for free. Fortunately, we spotted her and decided to go take a look. Poor Dutchie was shy and scared, very thin, sparse coat, and saggy belly indicative of a hard life of breeding. She had a vacant look of dispair in her eyes. We knew we had to help her! Dutchie deserves a life where she can be loved and part of a famil y, and not just used as a source of revenue.
Dutchie has been in foster care for a couple of months now. She has been spayed and is suprisingly HW negative! Although she does not yet have a slim trim belly, all the excess skin is starting to shrink and absorb back into her body. It will be several months before she has a "normal" profile, Dutchie looks so much better already, and is going to be absolutely stunning as she continues to get stronger and benefit from a good diet. Dutchie also has the prettiest and most soulful amber eyes.
Dutchie is one of the calmest dogs I have ever met. Although he is a bit shy and timid initially, once she gets to know you, she is a sweet, loving, and gentle soul. Dutchie is not a jumper, and is very calm in temperment. She is content to lay around and watch you, with a little sparkle in her eyes. She is such an appreciative girl. When you get home from work, Dutchie will be smiling and wagging her tail and come over to greet you. She likes to come and sit beside you and place her head in your lap for a gentle ear rub. Dutchie is a low energy girl. She likes to go for walks and car rides. She is a great supervisor in the yard....she likes to just lay nearby and watch while you are doing yardwork!! Dutchie is a quiet girl for the most part, but, like most german shepherds will bark to alert if she sees someone approaching. Dutchie is very well behaved and non destructive in the house. She likes to sleep beside you at night on her dog bed. Dutchie is smart, and has discovered how to open the food bin and help herself (so food will have to be well secured!!)
Dutchie does very well with larger calmer dogs. She integrated herself right into the pack, and is living with several other female shepherds. Although she does not play with other dogs, she is very content to be around them. The younger hyper ones get her a bit tense, but she has not reacted, she just moves out of the way. Her previous owner said she would try to catch chickens and cats, so a home with no cats or small dogs is probably best. Also, she is a bit startled by sudden movements, so a home with older children would also be best.
Dutchie has really blossomed in the past few months, and will be a great addition for some lucky family. Won't you come and meet Dutchie soon?
