German Shepherd Dog (medium coat) : : Male (neutered) : : Young
(1 1/2 yrs) Good with dogs, older considerate kids only. Cats TBD. Apartment appropriate Meet Geoffrey, the sweetest dog you will ever meet! This happy, loving dog is the perfect mixture of young playfulness and calm submissiveness! All he wants is some love and attention from you to make him feel safe and at home! Geoffrey's only goal in life is to be as close as possible to his owner and to do whatever it takes to please him/her! He has that natural submissive attitude and willingness to please that is hard to teach a dog and he is smart as well! In his former life, he was left in a back yard, chained and without water or food for two weeks and, prior to that, we believe he was abused due to his reaction to loud voices or quick hand movements. Geoffrey has the wisdom and self control that is not typical for his age which makes for a great training experience but he needs an owner with a gentle approach. He responds very well to calm, assertive instructions with positive rewards but will completely shut down if approached with ha rsh reprimands. He is most likely the calmest, most relaxed one and a half year old German Shepherd ever therefore he would do well in an apartment or with a less active family but he is still a young dog and will need a good walk every day in order to be satisfied. He loves other dogs but is a bit shy around people at first due to the abuse in his past. He is improving in this area and trusts people now but his owners must instruct all guests to be gentle and loving with him. If they are, then he will take to them quickly and love all over them! His personality is perfect for a healing dog or something and I would highly recomend that his new owners concider getting him certified so that he can visit hospitals or nursing homes which would be a great experience for him to grow, a fun time for him and his owner to bond, and highly rewarding for everyone involved! Since he has such a gentle, shy, loving type of personality, he is not the best watchdog but he will bark when som eone comes to the door. He does not naturally assume the role of watchdog in the house but as he gets more and more attached to his owners he will become more protective. Also, simply having a large, scary looking German Shepherd (even if they are not really mean) will be a good security system in and of itself! He would be great in a home with kids as long as they are conciderate and have experience and guidence when around him so that they learn to be gentle with him. He is most likely good with cats and small dogs but would need to be supervised in the beginning. He has shown interest in the neighbors cat but she has no experience wit dogs and either scares him off or runs away so he would do much better with a cat who is experienced with dogs and knows how to deal with them. Geoffrey is an amazing dog and his personality is very rare among all breeds so he really is a steal! This handsome boy has got it all and if you have a loving, caring home for him then he can't wait to come home with you!
