(8 years old) Max was left at a high kill shelter after growing up nearly 8 years with the same owner. Reason: the new condo he bought had weight restrictions. So poor Max was in an unfamiliar place with the clock ticking away. A nice lady who worked with several organizations put the plea out and GSRA stepped up and saved him. Max is a wonderful dog. He is settled, sweet, loving and appreciative of any attention you give him. He did develop separation anxiety (who wouldn't) but he's learning to trust that his foster mom is coming back in a little while and he gets lots of loving when let out of his crate. He also has learned that he gets a piece of cheese when he goes in the crate. He's not crazy about the crate, but he's getting better day by day.
Max knows the basic commands, sit, stay, wait, off, back off, and down. He's great on a leash, just the slightest tug and he corrects right away. He gets along with other dogs, but basically ignores them and he doesn't seem all that interested in cats. He's also good with kids, he does great with my 2 year old grandson. He also does not get on the furniture, but he wouldn't have a problem sitting next to you if that is what you want. Although Max gets along with other dogs, I don't think he would mind being the only dog. He is moderately active and although he has a little bit of arthritis in his left rear leg, it doesn't slow him down. He loves his walks, but he loves just hanging out with you. In the short time he's been with our family, he's become a velcro dog, he will stick with you. He barks when he needs to bark and settles when told to. You just could not ask for a better companion. One look into his big brown eyes and you will fall in love, I guarantee it!
