If you looked up "good-hearted" in the dictionary, you might see Nelly's face. She is a mostly black, 2-3 year old, girl who I think may also have a little something other than Shepherd, but certainly /lots /of shepherd.
She was found as a stray way down in Eastern NC and had been in a shelter for a month; she had managed to actually be an overweight stray dog! She had clearly been someone's pet and house dog, and she has learned even better manners in our house is just 2-3 weeks. She is an easy girl to live with. She is pretty mellow, although alert and lively in a very contained way. She crates really well without a peep, and stays well in our fenced back yard. She likes to play hard with other dogs, but will accept a rebuff and is living well with our 16 year old diva dog. I introduced her to small children and she was a bit wary at first, then very loving and very calm with them. She was more skittish about men, but is getting better and better each day. If she is unsure, she just backs away, but even when she would really retreat from my husband she never growled or was defensive. Now she follows him around the house! I would love to see Nelly with attention from people and dogs --a tolerant dog buddy who likes to play and run, or an active family/couple/person. Nelly is housebroken, OK with cats with a bit of supervision, very good with people and dogs. I am working on her leash skills (she had none). And, we have gotten a bit of weight off! Her coat is looking better with some good food and bathing. She would be a great addition to many situations.
