This is Mac. I found him standing in the middle of the Blue Ridge Parkway looking for help. None of the residents in the area recognized him, he has been posted on Facebook and on Paw Boost since I found him on 7/6 with no results. Local vets have no reports of missing dogs matching his description.

This big baby will steal his way into your heart immediately once you meet him! He is the most loving, people-oriented guy! Mac is a beautiful large-framed 4 year-old male German Shepherd in good health. He is 28” tall at the shoulder. He is extremely thin and has lost 20+ lbs. He has been wormed and has his rabies shot and is starting to gain weight.

It is heartwarming to watch him eat, wagging his tail the whole time he is having his dinner & looking up now and again as if to say thank you, thank you, thank you! He has been neutered, he does not have a chip, and he is housebroken. He rides in the car well and seems to enjoy the ride.

He has been cat tested and dog tested & is quite playful and very gentle with a playmate as long as they don’t growl. He likes tennis balls, plush toys and blankets ! He must have been an inside dog in his previous life because he cannot handle being left outside alone. He wants to be inside with his family wherever they are and he is very vocal about it.

He knows how to sit on command and to take a treat fairly nicely. He is learning other commands or possibly just being reminded of them now that the initial crisis is over as he was very stressed and emotional when I found him.

Although I would love to, I am unable to give him a furever home because we have a very small house that is already full of furries with 2 dogs and 4 cats. My husband is unstable on his feet and is likely to fall when there is limited walk space and this boy takes up quite a bit of room! We are both retired on limited incomes and we cannot take on another baby’s vet bills and food costs out of fairness to our current fur-children.

If you would like to meet this boy, we live in Galax, Va. and I would be happy to meet you anywhere within 2–3 hours of my home for an introduction If you cannot come to us.

We will request that you submit information about your setting, allow us to get vet references and make a home visit, unless you are previously approved by a rescue organization.

We welcome any and all questions!

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS NOT A GSRA DOG. ONLY CONTACT THIS INDIVIDUAL ABOUT THIS DOG. THE CONTACT HAS NO AFFILIATION WITH GSRA AND GSRA CANNOT ANSWER QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS DOG.
