Nala came into the rescue not because she wasn't loved, but because she was amazingly loved by the family she's known all her life. Rescue is hard because we see more heart-wrenching stories than the average person. I'm Nala's foster and took her directly from her wonderful family who made the hard decision to give her up because of a difficult circumstance they could not control. Most of the time rescue doesn't see the people behind the dog. With Nala, I did. I saw the love they had for her, I saw the tears they shed for her, I listened to the details about her personality they struggled to say because of the hard reality they faced of having her leave. Fostering has been the single commitment to find my dog a wonderful forever home, but in Nala's case, I am also being trusted by her family to find a forever home as wonderful as the one she came from. It's a responsibility I am taking very seriously.
Nala is a big sweetie who enjoys cuddling on the couch, eating, and having soft toys thrown for her retrieval. That's her softer side, on her naughty side, is nosing through bathroom trash and eating the paper products a trash can contains, and counter surfing. Maybe this eating obsession stems from the gut issue she is currently being treated for. We are working with our veterinarian to get her the proper diagnosis. Once thoroughly diagnosed, she will be available to go to her new home with instructions on how to keep her irritable gut happy and quiet. At the moment she is being fed a prescription diet and taking a few medications to manage it. I am still working with my vet to determine the cause of her symptoms, so it could be a short term issue or a lifelong issue that is managed. Nala also has an underactive thyroid that is remedied by a morning & evening thyroid replacement medication. It's not an expensive medicine, but one she will need everyday, twice a day, for the rest of her life. Her thyroid level will need to be monitored by a blood test by your veterinarian. Once medically cleared, she will need to be spayed; so adopting Nala isn't going to be quick, there is still work to be done to have her healthy & ready to be part of the family. A commitment GSRA stands by.
As for physical activity, Nala will take as many walks as you want to go on. She walks nicely on leash, but is easily distracted by a squirrel, so you'll want to have a secure collar & leash she can't run out of. Once the walking is done, she likes to sit in the backyard to watch birds & squirrels, and will be still as a statue doing it.
No doubt she is a fantastic riding companion. Anywhere you want to go, she's all in.
And when the day is coming to a close, she will want to share your couch. A good blanket and a pillow are the items she likes to ease her into the evening. And when you are ready to share the couch, she will politely scoot over to make room. As for her bedtime, she likes a bed of her own, but close by to you. She will sleep soundly all night, but is ready for the day the minute the alarm goes off.
