PHOENIX ~8-9 months old.  Good with older considerate children and dogs.   Needs a companion animal.  Cats TBD.

GSRA adopts to residents of VA, NC, and SC only.

Are you ready for a companion who loves attention and loves to give kisses? A companion who will always be watching for you and wanting to be with you? A companion with a beautiful smile and happy demeanor? Well, look no further, Phoenix is your boy!

Now Phoenix may not be a true German Shepherd, but we are giving him honorary shepherd status after all he has been through. In making an educated guess, Phoenix is seeming to be a malinios/husky/sneaky neighbor dog kind of mix. Phoenix is about 8-9 months old, and has a super soft fawn colored coat. He is about 35 pounds. He will not get much bigger, and will probably max out at around 45 pounds when he fills out. Phoenix has the most striking blue eyes! They are super intense, and make him the center of attention wherever he goes!

Not much is known about Phoenix's past. All we know is that he is a very lucky boy. You see Phoenix was running loose and got hit by a car in the middle of the night. Fortunately for him, the driver stopped and alerted Highway patrol who in turn alerted the county shelter. The ACO came to pick up Phoenix. Although Phoenix had a horrible injury, the ACO could not give up without at least trying to find some help for this boy...(he was only about a 4.5 month old puppy at the time). GSRA stepped in to help, and the generous and skilled veterinarians at the emergency clinic performed the surgery (tail amputation), and cared for him for a month due to the nature of the wound. Phoenix is a very lucky boy. Phoenix does not have any limitations or adverse conditions as a result of the injury. He is perfectly normal except for the fact that he has no tail...not even a nub. But he can still wiggle his butt when he is happy!!

Phoenix has been in his foster home for about a month now....he has learned how to follow a schedule and interact with other dogs. He is a good boy! He is housebroken and crate trained. He is a quiet boy for the most part, and rarely barks! He knows how to sit, and walks pretty well on the leash. Phoenix has also demonstrated that he likes to play with female dogs! He is a goof, and likes to play chase, as well as get dirty with a good old game of wrestle and tackle. He acted a bit apprehensive about a couple of male dogs here at the foster home. He was neutered in early June, so we are going to retest his interaction with male dogs in a few weeks. He has not been cat tested yet, but that can be arranged. Phoenix has recently discovered the tennis ball! He is so cute when he chases it and then bats it around with his paws! Everything is an adventure to this boy. Phoenix is also a big fan of belly rubs! He would probably love to sit beside you on the couch, eat pizza, watch a movie, and have a good belly rub. That is just the kind of pup he is!

Phoenix loves all people! Men, women, children, big people, small people...all are a source of love and affection, and he will happily engage with anyone! He is just a delightful boy! As mentioned above, his eyes are intense! They are also very round, which gives him a rather unique look! He kind of looks like he drank a few energy drinks and then chased them with a few espressos! Whoever adopts him will always have a topic for conversation as people seem very drawn to him.

Phoenix is a wonderful dog who will make some lucky family very happy for years to come! The stars were shining on this boy as he has gone through quite a bit in his few months! He deserves the best!

A fenced yard and a playful companion would be preferred, but an active family that will spend time doing activities with him will also be potential candidates!

Phoenix is a doll! He is sure to be quite popular!

PLEASE NOTE: It is GSRA policy that we do not adopt dogs under the age of 1 year to families with children under 8 years old.
