GSRA adopts to residents of VA, NC, and SC
Hi my name is Duke and like a lot of pups that end up in rescue my past is sad. After my owner died I was tied to a tree by other family members that said they would "take care of me". I was just a baby and very scared being by myself. Thankfully a good Samaritan heard about me and convinced the family to let them help me find a rescue, they got me off the chain and started my rehabilitation and then asked GSRA for help. So now I am a proud member of the GSRA family. I am living with a foster family and LOVE to play with my foster sister. We chase and wrestle all day. I am still a little scared of people but if you spend just a little time with me showing me that you are not going to hurt me I will be your best friend very quickly. It is almost my first birthday and my wish is to find my forever family.
From Duke's foster mom:
Duke is a delightful small package of loving playfulness. He is good with large and small dogs, has previously lived with cats. He is crate trained, house trained and walks well on leash. He will stay around 60lbs and is the size of a smaller female German shepherd. He is still timid when people he does not know want to pet him but does not exhibit any aggression and he walks just fine past people on leash. He warms up quickly and loves attention. Due to his timidness around people he needs a home without small children. He has good manners, he rarely jumps up, and takes treats very gently. Because of the risk of flight should he become spooked a fenced yard is necessary (4ft would be fine). Duke is somewhat vocal with dogs in adjoining yards but does not react to dogs while out walking. Duke needs a playful companion pup in his forever home that will help him continue to grow in confidence. Duke is still learning to live inside and it will take patience on the part of his forever family to gradually broaden his horizons as he gets comfortable. This little guy is the total package and is going to make a wonderful addition to his lucky forever family.
PLEASE NOTE: It is GSRA policy that we do not adopt dogs under the age of 1 year to families with children under the age of 8 years old.
