German Shepherd Dog (medium coat) : : Female (spayed) : : Young : : Large
HAPPY ~ 1 year old. Good with dogs. Kids TBD. Not good with cats. GSRA adopts to residents of VA, NC, and SC only. Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy! That is what you will be humming when you meet Happy, one of the more recent additions to the rescue. Happy is a beautiful, young and very happy little bi-colored shepherd, thus the name! We are estimating that she is about 1 year old. She is a bit on the petite side, clocking in at just under 50 pounds. She may be small in size, but she has the energy and personality of a 100 pound dog! We do not know much about Happy's earlier life...her owner passed away, and Happy was discovered tied up to a tree in the yard. Next of kin declined to take Happy, so she found herself in a small and overcrowded shelter. We just had to help this young and eager dog. Happy was a bit submissive and scared when she first came to the rescue. She quickly adapted to house living and human contact. She is very eager to please, and wants nothing more than to be near her people. She is very friendly, and her tail never stops wagging. She is as funny little girl; she has a LOT of energy, and loves to run around the yard at full speed. If you call her, she will come charging right over. She does have a tendency to try to jump up on you for attention. She has to learn to curb her enthusiasm...she will run around and also do little spin moves when she is impatient (such as when she is waiting to be let back into the house). Happy seems to be very intelligent, and seems eager to learn and also eager to please her person. She should be easy to train, as she is very focused on watching you and seems to be waiting for direction. She is very food motivated. She knows how to sit, and has made a great deal of progress on leash walking. She takes correction easily. Happy is housebroken and crate trained. Happy is a very intense dog, and has a very enthusiastic play style with other dogs. Happy is fearless, and will eagerly play chase and rough and tumble with dogs twice her size. She seems great with male dogs, and seems a bit obnoxious with female dogs. I think part of her issue is her energy level...she wants to run right up to a dog and engage...a bit of "socially awkward doggie manners". She will need controlled introductions to new dogs, and she should be fine. Happy has a very high prey drive, so she will not be compatible with homes with cats, small dogs, or small furry "exotics" such as guinea pigs, etc. Happy loves affection, and will try to crawl in your lap! She is a great dog that is a diamond in the rough. She has a great personality, and needs a new family/owner willing to spend time with her and work on positive reinforcement and training to allow her to become a great companion. she has the desire to please, she just needs to find the appropriate way to channel her energies! This adorable girl won't last long. Come meet her soon! More about Ripley FKA HappyGood with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Adults, Requires a yard Current Scheduled Events:
