LOBO ~ 1-2 years old.   Good with older considerate children and dogs.  Good for seniors/elderly.  Needs a companion animal. Cats TBD.

GSRA Adopts to residents of VA, NC, and SC only.

Lobo is a very sweet, somewhat shy but friendly GSD that was rescued from a neglectful situation. He lived his life on a chain, if you can call that a life.  The sights and sounds of a home  overwhelmed him at first, but he has adjusted nicely. He still doesn't particularly care for vacuum cleaners, but doesn't get frantic, just a bit scared. He is also uneasy around storms and needs a "safe place" that he can go that is close to his people. He rides well in a car, is completely house trained, walks well on a leash, and gets along with other dogs. Cats are TBD. He loves, loves, loves walks!! He has not had one accident in the house, which is impressive considering that he spent his life outdoors. He knows how to use a dog door as well. He shows his foster siblings respect and space, and is left out with them uncrated when we are not at home. He is not a big fan of the crate, but actually does like to go in and lay down sometimes if the door is open. There have been very few fosters that I have felt comfortable leaving out with my dogs, especially at first, but he is one of them.

He came into rescue with a respiratory infection, which turned into pneumonia despite being on antibiotics. He is on the "magical" antibiotics now, so is perking up and becoming more of an engaging dog. For a week and a half, he was so sick that he really didn't do much, so we let him focus on getting rest versus trying to do training since he was so sick. He will need someone who will be committed to training him basic obedience which will help strengthen the bond between him and his adoptive parents. He has a very strong desire to please his people though, so should be a quick study. Now that his health has improved, we will also start with his obedience training until he gets adopted. Lobo would do best with a companion animal and a work from home or retired person. He has spent his whole life without much human companionship, so wants as much as he can soak in now.

Unfortunately, Lobo is heart worm positive, but the rescue will take care of that. He will be treated at the end of July, and will be ready for his forever home by the end of October. Any interested adopter must be willing to wait until after his HW treatment is complete.

Lobo has a heart of gold and is one of those special magical dogs that blossoms in the right environment. We love him dearly!
