Meet Ransom a 2 1/2 year old female German Shepherd.  She is a ‘mini' at only 55 pounds but she is all German shepherd; smart, energetic, loyal, sweet and loving.  What a difference a few months makes.  Ransom has been in foster care and has made one of the most remarkable turn arounds we have ever seen.  Deemed dog aggressive and not good with cats, Ransom began her long journey to rehabilitation.  She is extremely smart and learned her obedience very quickly. She loves being with people and is very affectionate.  She is a great cuddler and loves to snuggle.  It’s hard to have a bad day with Ransom around, she has quite the personality. Ransom loves car rides and is a great walking companion.

Ransom is now living with 3 German shepherds and Linus, the kitty.  Introductions were done very slowly with crating and pack walks and Ransom thought that being part of a pack is fun. Linus decided one day that he would like to personally introduce himself and as the foster mom held her breath, Linus jumped over the baby gate and he and Ransom got well acquainted and have become good friends. Linus is not a very active cat at 17, but he can be quite annoying when he wants to snuggle and Ransom is very accommodating.  So accommodating that we have to remove Linus off of Ransom’s bed so she can have some peace.

Ransom is a very agile and smart girl. She has a fantastic nose and would be great as a sport tracking dog or to do ’nose work’ training. She would also excel as an agility dog -she loves learning new things. Ransom is learning to play SAR (search and rescue in the house) and loves the game when we hide her favorite treat (carrots) for her to find.  Ransom’s wish list for a new home would be:  Experienced GSD owners with no children under 16 and a secure fenced in yard.

Ransom can do well with other dogs and cats that are not very young or overly active.  Introductions will need to be slow with firm direction.  Ransom takes direction and correction very well, she is eager to please.  Ransom can get very excited and will need direction on how to channel that excitement and learn boundaries.  Ransom walks great on a leash and would make an excellent walking partner. When she meets dogs on the street she can get overly excited so she will need continued training in this area.  If dogs are behind a fence and barking she will just need a quick correction and a ‘let’s go’ command and she will move on.  Ransom has come such a long way in just a few months, we are looking for an owner that will continue her incredible progress.

Ransom is crated trained, spayed and up to date on shots and on heart worm preventative.  She has completed HW treatment and is good to go.

We are looking for a very special home for this amazing girl.  She is very affectionate and loving and will bond quickly. She has such a wonderful personality and is very sweet and submissive with people.  If you are interested in adopting Ransom, you can contact Donna J. at Shepherds Hope Rescue at Bluemoonblue13@gmail.com for a chat and then fill out an online application.
