German Shepherd Dog : : Male (neutered) : : Young
REBEL ~1 1/2 years old. Good dogs. Kids TBD. Not good with cats.
Rebel is ready for adoption! We think Rebel is a German shepherd/Malinois cross. He is absolutely stunning and people cannot help but stop and comment on how beautiful and well behaved he is. Rebel has been in foster care for two months now in order to assess him, work on some basic skills and get full medical treatment. Rebel is probably younger than the 2 years the shelter thought. Rebel still exhibits some “puppy-ish” behaviors so we think it is likely that he is less than 18 months old. Rebel’s basic training has come along nicely. He corrects easily and understands “sit,” “down,” “crate,” “wait,” “come,” and “heel.” He is very smart and would thrive with someone who loves to work with their dog. Because Rebel is very treat-motivated, his foster has been using clicker training and he is responding very well. He loves to engage and interact with people. He is very affectionate and loves his human petting and cu ddle time. Rebel loves to ride in the car and take walks. He has excellent leash manners and heels very well. He is a wonderful walking partner. He absolutely adores chasing the ball and loves to play fetch. He has a moderate activity level and does not have a crazy ball drive. He is quiet and happy and loves his crate. He loves food puzzles (Large Kong filled with plain yogurt and mashed banana is a favorite!) and Nylabones, but he only likes to chew on his toys, no furniture for him please. He has exhibited no food/toy or resource guarding. Rebel is a confident dog and has exhibited typical GSD traits such as protecting his home and people. He will need a GSD-experienced family who will remind him that he is responsible to his family and not for them. He bonds very quickly to his people. Rebel likes other dogs but will need slow and supervised introductions to establish a good relationship with his new sibling. Rebel gets very excited and can be a bit rough with play so he will need a family who will continue to give him guidance. He has been off leash around other calm dogs and had no issues. Rebel would probably do well with a female or a submissive male dog. Rebel is very smart and will need a GSD-experienced family who enjoys incorporating their dog into family activities. Because Rebel lived outside the first part of his life, he loves to be inside and be with his family and enjoy their companionship. He has a moderate activity level and after a good walk and a bit of fetch outside he is very happy to come inside and lounge around the house and take a nap. Rebel is up to day on shots, neutered and on monthly heart worm preventative. He has completed his heart worm treatment. We would not recommend Rebel with children under 16 and do require German shepherd ownership experience. Rebel is being fostered in the Charlotte area and would love a home of his own. Applicants in NC and SC would be best. Please contact Donna J. at bluemoonblue13@gmail.com for questions or fill out an online application at Shepherds Hope German Shepherd Rescue .
