SPITFIRE~1 year old. Good with large dogs and older considerate children over the age of 15 years. Not good with cats or small dogs. Needs a companion animal. GSRA adopts to residents of VA, NC, and SC only Every once in a while, you come across a dog that is very smart, very energetic, very pretty, and also very intelligent. Unfortunately, when we get a dog like this into rescue, they tend to have had very little guidance as puppies. They are wide open, with no sense of boundaries. With that being said, let me introduce you to Spitfire! Spitfire is an absolutely gorgeous 1 year old female working line Sable puppy. She is approximately 50 pounds, and while she is the size of a regular dog, she is still a puppy at heart, and has had very little socialization during her short time prior to rescue. We have been working with her to try to teach her some manners, and work on her socialization skills. Spitfire will probably be 70 to 75 pounds when she fills out and finishes growing. Spitfire will only be placed in a home with previous working line experience, or experience with a "behavioral" challenged dog. She's a great dog, but unless you have experience in dealing with such behavior, and are a firm alpha leader, she is not the dog for you! Spitfire is very eager to please, and trains very easily, but will need a lot of reinforcement and positive training. Please note, that Spitfire is a working line dog. She will need a family or owner who is willing to work with her and give her a "job"! She is not suited for someone who just wants a friendly companion animal. She needs to have a mission and a sense of focus, whether it be agility or tracking or some other form of mental engagement. She has the "intensity" that is common in the working lines. Spitfire was not well socialized as a pup. She can have a little fear aggression when meeting new people. We have been working with her and she is making progress in this area . She is an insecure dog, and we are working on building her confidence. Once she gains your trust, she is a very loyal and devoted dog. She is very easy to train, and is very food motivated. She is also very structured oriented and likes to have a constant and regular schedule. Spitfire needs a home where she will get both physical and mental exercise. Spitfire is very "mouthy", which is typical for working line dogs. As such, she cannot be placed in a home with small children. She does not try to bite, but she does tend to "grab", and as such, she needs a home with adults or children over the age of 15 who know how to recognize such behavior. She is making great progress on being less mouthy, and learning how to control her impulses to grab randomly. Spitfire is affectionate, and is learning how to accept and appreciate human interaction. She likes being petted, but it's still a bit mouthy about it. Spitfire has high prey drive and highball drive. If you throw something she will chase it and get it, and she is pretty good about letting you take it back from her. Spitfire loves to play with other dogs, but she needs proper introductions. She gets very excited meeting new dogs, but once she gets her Introductory sniff taken care of, and you walk around a bit, she is ready to play. She will do well with a companion animal that is energetic, willing to play with her, but not overly dominant. Spitfire has been going to doggy day care and has been doing fabulously with a variety of dogs from the medium to large size range. Due to her prey drive, small dogs and cats are not an option.
If you think spitfire is the dog for you please come and meet her! She is a fabulous dog that just needs a structured environment, with someone willing to work with her to achieve her full potential. Spitfire is very athletic and energetic. She will require a home with fencing of at least 5 ft. Spitfire is a special case, due to her lack of training early on and her intensity we are implementing she can not go to a family with children under the age of 15 years old. Needs someone who can let her out frequently. I think part of it may be excitement/external stimulus reaction, but she will frequently urinate in her crate. She does not poop in crate, so she has learned that much!! Needs someone who is home a lot to work with her and give her exercise /training/job. Will discourage against someone who will be gone 8 hours per day.... MOUTHY!!! It is mostly excitement, and energy, but will not place with small children or young teenager households....working on this Current Scheduled Events:
