Foster Diary

Hello there, I’m Teddy, and I can’t wait to meet you! My foster mom says I could just as well be called Chick Magnet, because that’s what I am. Hee, hee, it’s true, the ladies get all silly over me, and I don’t mind a bit! I’m happy to get attention from the gents and kids, too, and I’m very good with the kids—I just stand there quietly while they pet me and don’t jump at all.

I do get excited about squirrels, though; in fact, about the only time I bark is when I see them and need to chase them. Mom says I am a fool about squirrels. She just does NOT understand how important it is to be on guard against them; give them an inch and they’ll take a mile, that’s what I say; sheesh! When not on squirrel patrol I like to be inside with my people. I will follow you around and keep my eye on you, but I learn quickly if there are certain parts of the house I’m not supposed to go. My house manners are very good (no accidents, no destruction), although Mom and I have a difference of opinion on whether it’s “good” to bring it to your attention when there is something interesting in the kitchen trash. There usually is not, so I have mostly stopped looking. Not too long ago there was a bad time in my life where I was scared and in a lot of pain. I’m kind of fuzzy about the details, so I’ll let foster mom tell you about that part. Hi there, Teddy’s foster mom here. Yes to all the above! Teddy is a doll, and does well with both larger and smaller dogs. His markings are spot-on for being full German Shepherd, but his smaller stature and fluffy coat make us think there’s a little mix in there somewhere. He was found on the side of the road by a very kind woman, in bad shape from having been hit by a car. She got him emergency vet care to stabilize him, oversaw his transfer to her personal vet, and got in touch with GSRA—a true guardian angel when he needed one. Teddy then needed surgery to repair an injured left hip, which he received in early March. The hip has healed nicely, but his rehab continues. Right now he needs several slow walks per day to encourage him to use the leg normally and rebuild the muscles. Depending on how that progresses he will be available for adoption in mid-May.
