Foster Diary

The first thing you notice about Sunday when you see her is that she is BEAUTIFUL! Even though she is severely underweight (she should weigh about 75 lbs) and her coat is a little ragged, she is a show-stopper.

The next thing you notice about Sunday is that she is sweet. Just a sweet, sweet girl who is happy to meet anyone and who loves to be held, and patted and kissed. She is, in fact, the ultimate snuggle bear (minus the bones that keep sticking into you because she is so thin!)

Given these awesome characteristics, you've got to wonder how she found herself an owner-surrender at a high kill animal shelter! What could someone possibly have against her? She's house trained, crate trained, walks well on leash, gets along great with other dogs....ok, so she is a little too interested in cats, but really, you'd give her up because of that???

When she came to us we were told she was 12 years old. We were expecting a quiet, shy, gentle grandma dog who just needed somewhere safe to live out her years. One look at Sunday though and we knew she wasn't 12 :) Our vet estimates her to be between 5 and 6 years old. She's actually in pretty good shape health-wise, and just needs to add a whole lot of meat to her bones in order to be as fit as a fiddle. She has just the right amount of energy too! She loves to play fetch with the ball and will chase after it for as long as you can throw it. But when its time to come inside and rest, she can be as good a couch potato as the rest of the dogs.

Sunday is a typical GSD in that she wants to be right by your side at all times. If we go upstairs where she isn't allowed to follow (that's where the kitties live) she'll just sit patiently at the bottom and wait for our return.

Sunday would do best in a moderately active home. She'd be great with kids and adults alike. Although she doesn't play with the other dogs in her foster home, I get the feeling that she would like to have a doggie companion to live with. It's not a "must" but I think it would make it easier for her to cope when/if her family had to leave her alone. If she is adopted by a family with no other dogs patience and understanding will be needed to help her acclimate to her new home. She tends to be a little anxious when she first moves in with you :)

All in all Miss Sunday is one of the sweetest, easiest, most beautiful fosters we have had the pleasure of sharing our home with.
