Foster Diary
"Hey there….its Rueben here! I thought I would re-introduce myself since I've been in foster care for about 3 months. They actually let me talk this time! Did you see my very own U-tube video, did ya, did ya?? I'm a star! Believe it or not, the folks here said that I was "unruly" and didn't have manners when I first came to the rescue in April.
I like to think that I was figuring out what those humans expected of me. Once they told me, I took it all in and changed my ways. It wasn't hard….I'm a good listener! So, once I started acting right, they gave me lots of love! Not a bad deal because I absolutely LOVE big bear hugs and snuggling. I'm still working on my excitement when I see other dogs and cats, but I try real hard. A couple times I went right over the fence to say "hi" to another dog, but I've learned that's not very good either! You should probably make sure to keep an eye on me in the yard…just to remind me to stay put! I just LOVE to play so much that I forget to act "proper" sometimes! It would be so cool if I could find a family with a medium or large size dog to play with and maybe some older kids to chum around with. I like to play with my soccer ball and am perfecting my fetch skills, but I also like to chill in the house with my humans. The squeaky toys are loads of fun, but that squeaker is no match for me! I can find it and "silence it" in a record 20.6 seconds! Ha! Beat that! Be ready to buy me some "tough" toys! I do great with the big humans, but you need to remind me to watch out for the smaller ones. I forget how big I am sometimes! Whoops! I'm also a bit too big for smaller dogs and cats… they don't know how to handle my patented "Rueben body slam". Haha! Oh, I think I'm supposed to tell you the boring stuff, like that I'm housetrained and crate trained. I'll be two years old in a few months and I'm a growing boy, weighing in at about 98lbs. Well, I'm going to let my foster mom take it from here…I'm ready to go play!" As you can tell, Rueben has LOADS of goofy personality that will keep you laughing every day. I mean, look at those ears! As he said, he has put a lot of effort into becoming a very obedient dog, but he will need a family that is committed to keeping him that way. He needs little reminders of proper doggy behavior to make sure that he doesn't revert back to the unruly guy he was back in April! It won't take much, but he needs guidance, just like any kid would! It's hard not to love this guy once you get to know him! He forgot to mention that he talks. When you tell him not to do something and he really wants to do it, he will "talk back" with a "roo roo roo" as if to say "But mom…can I?". It is a riot! Reuben will do well with kids, but still needs supervision until he gets to know them. More importantly, the kids in his new family need to be taught proper manners around a large playful dog. Reuben has finished up his heartworm treatment and is as healthy as a horse. He's anxiously awaiting a family to come and scoop him up. He's no longer a diamond in the rough...we've polished him up and he's shining like a diamond! So come out and meet him at the next adoption event. He'll be waiting with his big goofy grin!
