Foster Diary

Hi, my name is Lily and I am about 3 years old. I have been living with my Mom for the past year and although she loves me very much, she has been going through a very rough time and now she has to give up our home. She does not know where she will live so she needs to find me a new home. I am a great girl! When she adopted me I had heartworms and was very skinny but now I have been spayed and weigh about 65 pounds. I am very healthy and my coat is nice and shinny. When my Mom first took me in I had some pretty serious socialization issues.

My last owners did not treat me very well and I became very afraid of people. I will not bite; I prefer to run away if I get scared. I am working on trusting people again and my Mom has worked diligently with me to regain confidence. I still get scared when people run up to me but my Mom makes me sit and stay, and I trust she will not let anyone hurt me. I like other dogs after I get to know them; as a matter of fact I would prefer to come to a home that already has another dog. Mom says my social skills will blossom even more if I live with another dog. I do not need to be pampered, but I do need a lot of love and I need rules with consistent commands. The more you teach me, the more confident I become. My energy level is pretty high. I am used to regular power walks or jogging. I know all the basic commands, although when I get nervous I sometimes forget them. I am good on a leash and I like to fetch the tennis ball over and over again. Even though I am active, I am just fine being left alone for the day while Mom is at work but in the evening I do want attention. I love my crate to sleep in but my Mom always leaves the door open. I have the run of the house and I don’t bother anything. I also love cats… I have to, as I currently live with three! In a new home I will be very shy at first, but with love and consistent training I will come out of my shell. One more thing, I love to be brushed and combed and will sit forever to let you do it. I need a home where I can get some extra special care and attention, but I guarantee that if you do I will love you with all my heart. Do you have room in your heart for me?
