Foster Diary
[UPDATE] Asia has been in our care for 6 months. She is a beautiful girl with a lovely spirit. She is high energy but relaxes easily and is very content to "hang out" quietly with her humans. However, say the word and she's ready to go out back with her sibling GSDs ! She runs very quickly and when excited will charge full speed and head on, we are working to correct that, but until she recognizes that behavior is unacceptable, I would recommend only older children and adults for her playtime. She loves to be with her humans.
I hope to see her in a home where there is someone home more often than I am. I have long work days and when I arrive home, she is so excited and happy to see me that she runs to me with a soft toy in her mouth, as a welcome home present. At that time, she wants and needs a lot of attention. She does extremely well with my two GSDs, she does not need to be crated at all. She has not chewed anything and has never had a potty accident inside my home. I find that quite amazing but I am thrilled about it ! I think she would love to have a canine companion, but would do fine without one as long as she has a human to spend time with. She is fine with my cats - I now know she treats them like wind-up toys. If they run, she'll chase them or just ignore them all together, guess it depends on her mood. She is in excellent health, has beautiful strong, white teeth and a shiny coat. She is not a picky eater and enjoys mealtime -- she LOVE ice cubes as treats ! Asia has been waiting a long time for her forever home, if you think you would like to share your life with this lovely girl, please submit an application and mention her name"
[ORIGINAL] Asia is GSD/Golden mix that came into our rescue on 12/01/2007. She landed in a shelter when her human "Mom" passed away and the man in the house called Animal Control, dragged her out of the house by her collar, and told them to get her out of his house along with two other dogs. It was very clear to our volunteer who went to assess her, that she was terrified of people as well as nervous and scared in her new environment. She had obviously been abused by the man, but her Mom must have cared about her because she is in good physical condition. Her original name is Sheba, but she did not react to that name at all. As I continued to look at her beautiful face with the slightly slanted eyes and black eye liner, she became "Asia". She has the typical GSD black and tan coloring, but her coat is silky and her hair is longer and when she runs all her feathers fly in the breeze. It is a beautiful sight to see. Asia has been living with me, my two GSDs (adopted from this rescue) and the two resident cats since she came into the care of GSRA. It took her a couple of weeks to understand that she was safe and loved in her new home. Since then her life has been very happy and carefree. She loves to run around in the back yard with her foster sister and brother and she followed inches behind me the entire time when I mowed the yard last week. She is interested in the cats at times, but I believe it is only in play. She will bark at them occasionally but she means them no harm. However, she will need to be carefully watched if she moves to a new home with cats. I would not recommend a home with small children, she is 80 lbs, full of energy and could easily knock over a small child. She has had no exposure to children since being in my care, except at the adoption events where she seemed fine with them but was nervous with the hectic atmosphere of the event. This girl is an excellent house guest and does not need to be crated when I'm gone. She has full roaming privileges with the other animals all day when I'm at work (9/10 hrs). She has not had a single accident and has not chewed or destroyed a single thing ! Pretty amazing huh ? She loves her fluffy toys and will bring me one each time I come home, it's a gift I presume -- how sweet is that ? Asia still needs additional leash training and must be carefully watched when opening a door - she has bolted out the door twice. Although I never lost sight of her while running to try to catch up, she took a short tour of the neighbors yards and then ran back home and sat by the front door and waited for me ! Cute ?? She needs A LOT of work on "recall". I hope there is a special person or family out there looking for a fabulous girl like Asia, who will be patient enough to allow her to adjust to another new home and be kind, loving, and gentle with her. Until we find that special home, she is certainly welcome to stay with us. P.S. - I should mention she sleeps on the bed w/me most nights and is a coach potato (very bad, I know) If you'd like to learn more about Asia, please submit your application and mention her name !
